Meanings and definitions to a wide variety of spiritual words.This list is just the 'tip of the iceberg' we are just starting out on these pages so we will be constantly updating and expanding on these definitions.

A New Dawn-A new start a new day, begin again.A New Dawn Angels –Angels are instruments of love. They are spirit beings, who everywhere at all times are reaching out to you via music and song, art, poetry and movement. They are love manifested as a smile, encouragement, compassion- uplifting and inspiring us to feel lighter, to see the goodness in all things and reach for our best selves during this journey of life
Altar- a sacred place on which to place items of reverence
Animal totems- birds and animals have been used as symbols in every culture throughout time. The Egyptians used animal heads on their gods and birds such as the Iris was used to represent the Moon God Thoth. Animals have been used on badges on heraldic arms, shields to represent qualities that individuals, families or communities possessed. Birds were used to symbolize freedom, the soul transcending from the body and are connected with divinity and power and victory. In mythologies throughout the world they are depicted as ‘messengers of the gods’. Just a few:
Dove- Universally used as a symbol of peace and innocence and adopted as a symbol by peace organizations throughout the world. The Chinese use the dove as a symbol of longevity. In the Bible the dove with olive leaf brought to Noah and the Ark is deliverance, In Christianity it is the symbol of the Holy Spirit and in Greek mythology the dove bearing and olive branch is the renewal of life.
Dragon- Many different meanings across the world- In western cultures it is mainly thought of as destructive and evil. In Eastern cultures it is used as a creative and benevolent symbol and the winged dragon is celestial and supernatural powers. In China it is the highest spiritual power of light and life.The dragon is the luckiest sign in Oriental horoscopes. Phoenix- A mythological bird with red and gold feathers representing the rising Sun. An ancient symbol of immortality, resurrection, rebirth and the Sun. The Phoenix felt death getting nearer after having lived for 500 years. She died in flames after building a funeral pyre which she had ignited by using the sun’s heat and fanning it with her wings. After 3 days a new phoenix arose to live another 500 years. Ascended Masters - A spiritually enlightened being who has undergone the process of ascension and become Self-Realized. Having reached a higher state of spiritual awareness they now serve humanity. They can come and go as they choose from the earth plane without the cycle of Birth and Death. A Master such as Jesus or Buddha, is "an entity that was once alive and excelled in bringing his or her spiritual truth to light. Masters often continue their life path after death and guide those who need their instruction.
Avatar-an ascended master with full command of his or her area of expertise who wields power as well. Avatars are like warrior spirits. Buddha- An Indian price Siddhartha Gutama found enlightenment and came to be known as Buddha (meaning enlightened one). Colour Healing- Colour affects all levels of our being both visibly and invisibly. The healing properties of each colour of the rainbow spectrum have been known since ancient times. In the children’s activity book Blossominka and the Stellar StarForce colour has been used to stimulate and create a whole brain learning situation. Charka – A Sanskrit word for wheel representing the 7 swirling vortex energy centres on our body of sound, colour and light where the spiraling exchange from one frequency to another of conscious and energy takes place. Cross - Two lines intersecting. Used by almost every culture since prehistoric times as a sacred, protective or decorative emblem. Not just a Christian symbol, the cross is used by Scandinavians, Persians, Assyrians and Indians. Crystal healing-Healing with the use of crystals. A crystal healer uses gem stones, crystals or minerals placed on energy centres of the body to enhance the flow of energy and balance the energy of the body systems. Egyptian Gods and Symbols c.3000 B.C. The Egyptians worshiped hundreds of different gods many of whom were represented by animal. The sun god was the most significant appearing as different forms -Khrepi at dawn – the scarab rolling the sun dial, Re-Harakhty the hawk soaring in the sky and responsible for all creation and Amun-Re- king of the gods and protector to the pharaoh when he went off to war.
Amulets- A magical charm worn on necklaces or as a bracelet to ward off danger and injury, also placed in mummy to protect in the next life. These amulets were sometimes accompanied by magical spells.
Ankh- Only gods, kings and queens were allowed to carry this symbol- The Ankh is the Egyptian Sign of Life – the king or god holding it has the power to give life or take it away.
Bastet – A cat goddess- daughter of Re the sun god- She symbolized the power of the sun to ripen crops.
Bes – God of the Family- an amusing figure that dances on a lotus flower he holds a tambourine and carved out of wood before being painted. He is god of the well-being of the newborn and the family in general.
Eye of Horus- Represents both the vengeful eye of the sun god and the eye of the god Horus-which was magically restored after being torn out by Seth in a struggle for the throne of Egypt. It is told that it protects everything behind it.
Isis- Goddess of feminine energy. High priestess, Moon goddess and goddess of divine magic and alchemy.
Lotus- this flower was very important to the Egyptians. It was used to decorate their temples (sometimes as inlay tiles) and personal belongings.
Obelisk –These stone pillars were carved with titles of kings and dedication to the gods. The pointed tip of the obelisk represents the ground on which the sun god stood to create the universe.
Scarab- Symbolizes the sun god Khepri. The Scarab beetle pushes a ball of dung around which to the Egyptians was the way they imagined the sun being propelled.The scarab was placed over the king’s heart to protect and help him through the rigors of scrutiny of his past life that happened in the underworld.
Taweret – Goddess of Childbirth- represented as a pregnant Hippopotamus – she looks ferocious to ward off evil from attacking the woman during childbirth. Prayers to this goddess were an essential part of giving birth. Thoth- Moon God of wisdom and healing. Symbolized by the Ibis due to its curved beak being shaped like a crescent moon. As the patron of the scribes he brought writing, mathematics and medicine to the Egyptians.
Fairies – nature sprites from the nature realm Elemental Kingdom of which there are four elements - fire, earth, air and water. – bringing us joy, fun and laughter.
Feng Shui -Chinese for wind and water, feng shui which is pronounced 'fung shway'. is the ancient Chinese art of recognizing and utilizing the relationship between one's harmony, health, and prosperity, and the physical placement and layout of dwellings, other buildings, and other objects in your day to day surroundings.
Ganesha – The Hindu Lord of success and destroyer of evils and obstacles, worshipped as the god of education, knowledge, wisdom and wealth. Horoscopes- Chart or diagram consisting of 12 signs which rotate in the night sky. Different months are attributed to different star constellations which are called signs. Therefore a Star sign is a label of the time of year on which you were born. The horoscope contains 12 different signs and was know to man in the most ancient of times. Using numerology the horoscopes are told to be able to predict you days, months or years achievements.
Mandala– Sanskrit/Hindu word meaning 'circle' or 'completion, a form that encircles and creates a sacred space representing wholeness.
Meditation A discipline practiced by many old and new religions and beliefs.A deep state of relaxation and awareness. Through this state many believe that many achievements can be obtained. Mother Earth – feminine essence of our Earth-helping all those who ask to live in harmony and respect the planet.
Mother Mary- the beloved Mother of Christ- known throughout the world for her miraculous healing work especially with children.
Om - Aum- Sacred Hindu word in Sanskrit calligraphy. The word contains three sounds – A, U, M these represent the ‘fundamental sounds of the universe” and the trinity formed by divine forces of Brahma (supreme god in Hindu belief) Vishnu and Shiva who combine forces to propel the wheel of life endlessly from birth to rebirth. This is a course of action which each person can analyze and manipulate certain aspects of ones character, habits and actions to bring about a better or positive experience in their lives.
Prayer Flags- Found commonly throughout Tibet. Brightly coloured consisting of five colours- yellow, green, blue, red and white to symbolize the elements. Mantras and blessings are printed by hand onto the flags using wooden blocks. As the flags flutter in the breeze the prayers are carried to the heavens.
Psalm- Scripture from the Bible used throughout the world for its healing power. For an uplifting and fresh approach to The 23rd Psalm Reiki is a Japanese technique that can have many uses of which one is stress reduction and relaxation. This can also help with healing and balancing. This technique is usually applied though laying on of hands.Reike works with the premise that unseen life force energy flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If this energy is low we are susceptible to sickness stress, where as if this energy is high we are able to become happy and healthy.
Runes- from the earliest north European alphabet- Runic- mainly used originally for mystical inscriptions n stone, wood, metal and bones. Used as a divination tool. Receive a reading from our Runes.
Spirit guide- is the term given to all entities that provide guidance or protection. We generally have a couple of guides that stay with us through life's journey and others that come and go according to our needs at the time. These can include deceased relatives, spiritual beings such as angels or devas or some of the Ascended Masters. Star of David- Six pointed star-symbol of the world’s oldest religion Judaism (about 4000 years old) - Each point represents the days of the week (Monday to Saturday or the 6 days of Creation) the hexagon in the center represents the Sabbath (seventh day) A lesser known name is Creator’s Star.

A circle consisting of eight spokes representing the essence of Bhuddist discipline, the noble eightfold path.It is only by following this path that a believer can obtain the ultimate goal of enlightenment and thus the immortal state of Nirvana and thus leave the endless state of birth and rebirth. The eight stages are – right faith, right values, right speech, right conduct, right livelihood, right endeavor, right awareness of one’s feelings and actions, and the right concentration or meditation.
